Overview
Makalidurga is one of the unique trekking destinations located around Bangalore. Makalidurga is a small village situated 60 km away from the city, takes about close to 2 hours to reach the place. It is unique in its own involving trekking through the railway track and reaching the base camp to begin the trek further to uphill. This fort hill has religious significance in the Hindu mythology, Sage (Rishi) Markandeya performed penance at this place. The fort of Makalidurga has its roots ground to a strong historical background. Way back to the ancient times, the fort was under the Vijaynagar Empire which was captured later by the Marathas. Over the period of time, the battles brought this historical fort under the control of Kempe Gowda. Nearby the railway station, there is a temple situated from where the walk ahead for the fort hill begins. The place is blessed with history, spirituality and adventure which make it a worthy place to be visited sooner.
