It was in 1977, a group of college going cricket enthusiastic students came together with the sole objective of playing more cricket and established Bluestar Cricket Club, the first form of present Ernakulam Cricket club trust, duly registered with Ernakulam District Cricket Association. In 1981, the group had metamorphosed into "unemployed graduates" and realized themselves that the dream of donning national colours had been tampered by the stark reality confronting them that cricket will not provide a livelihood. Keeping the spirit in mind and making way for the next generation to be provided with the opportunity to play their game to prove themselves and to get attention of selectors, they started an All Kerala Cricket Tournament for registered clubs, at Maharaja's College ground for K A Damodara Menon Memorial ever rolling trophy which was donated by Late Smt. Leela Damodhara Menon in memory of her husband, the first version of the present Coromandal Trophy All Kerala Cricket Tournament in which the trophy being the same. On her death in 1995, the club instituted one more trophy for the winner in the name of Late Leela Damodara Menon. The club had gone through a fledgling days shifting venues and running around for sponsors etc.. But the love for the game that had brought together the band of youngsters developed into an all encompassing spirit that provided them to keep the flame alight.
The club got a sponsor and the tournament for some time was called the Presteege Cricket Tournament and the Maharajas College ground became a permanent venue which was the fruitful days of the Tournament and club attracting a good number of cricket lovers to enjoy and encourage and Players to polish themselves to attract the eyes of the wise men with their inspired performances. The name of the club had changed to Ernakulam Cricket Club since 1994, which is registered under the Charitable Trust act and all the further activities of the club come under the Ernakulam cricket club Trust.
Later, till present, the club found a very sporting sponsor, The India Cements and the presently it is the Coromandal Cement All Kerala Cricket Tournament for K A Damodara Menon Memorial Trophy. Presently it is one among the best Cricket Tournaments organized in the State with current ODI standard rules and conduct and continuing the same spirit safe in the hands of the younger generation with an uninterrupted 33 years even with difficult times due to the lack of own ground.
The Name of the club came to highlight in 2005 when S Sreesanth, only second to Tinu Yohanan from Kerala, played for India on 25th October 2005 in an ODI against Sri Lanka and on 1st March 2006 against England in a Test Match. Till then the Ernakulam Cricket Club was known of their well organized and managed Tournament. Since then the identity had been shifted to the National figure as Sreesanth was grown up and nurtured from the Ernakulam cricket club under the guidance of the senior players. In 2006 MUTHOOT PAPPACHAN GROUP came forward with a helping hand to sponsor the club and till date the big support of the Muthoot Pappachan Group made way for the development of cricket under the guidance of Ernakulam Cricket club in the City of Ernakulam.
